Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), is FANTASTIC. It  is conducted as a 14 hour Nationally and Internationally acclaimed training workshop which may only be facilitated by an accredited MHFA trainer. MHFA was designed in Australia to reduce stigma and increase mental health literacy amongst Australians. It empowers individuals who do not have mental health training to recognize and intervene earlier to improve outcomes for people with mental illness or for those developing a mental health problem. It is an internationally valued and multi-award winning course which has been replicated in many countries.

Standard MHFA is commonly and most effectively taught over two full (consecutive or non-consecutive) days. Due to its licensing agreement it can not be shortened. There is however a 'Blended' version of Standard Mental Health First Aid that allows participants to complete half the training online before attending a 5 hour face to face session. This suits some organisations who feel unable to take staff off-line for two whole days.

After 3 years following accreditation as an Mental Health First Aider, individuals may undertake an MHFA 5 hour 'refresher course. Ask us how.

Mental Health First Aid is aimed at individuals  who do not have mental health training and who wish to be able to offer a first aid  response to a person who has or is developing, mental illness or a mental health crisis. This workshop is the Standard (adults) Mental Health First Aid presentation.

Participant will explore first aid responses to’

  • the person who is becoming anxious or having a panic attack

  • the person who is becoming depressed, Self-Harming or Suicidal

  • the person with psychosis eg. Schizophrenia or Bipolar disorder

  • the person with substance misuse-related problems

  • the person who is upset and agitated
